Washington is a close-knit community and when our town was hit by a tornado in 2013 and 1,000 homes were damaged, this town came together and provided for those that lost everything. Abraham Lincoln visited and spoke at the town square and you can find footprints on the sidewalks where he stood. The storefronts in our town square have been restored to their original look and house many unique shops.
Among these shops, there is an old bank that has been turned into a restaurant and at one time, there was a bowling alley in the basement of one of the shops that had actual people re-set the pins instead of an automated pin setter. In September of 2012, the American Pickers visited our town and aired their visit and finds on their TV show.
